10 Ways to Stay Active, Creative, and Connected This Summer
Summer is here and it’s the perfect time to get moving, explore your creativity, and spend meaningful moments with your family and friends. Whether you’re chasing sunshine or escaping the heat, we’ve got a list of fun, empowering activities to keep your body and brain energized all summer long!
1. Clean Out Your Bookshelves
Sort through your bookshelf and set aside any books you’ve outgrown or already enjoyed. You can donate them to Wonder Words: a nonprofit founded by a Girls on the Run alumnathat collects books for children in Union County. Bring a gently used book to Kate’s Skates on July 16th from 5–8 PM and add to the growing collection! Read more about Wonder Wonders here.
Bonus: You’ll get to see your book bless another young reader!
2. Escape the Heat at Kate’s Skates – July 16
Cool down and roll into a good time at Kate’s Skates from 5–8 PM! It’s a great way to get active and connect with others. RSVP HERE
3. Complete the GOTR Summer Bingo Challenge
There’s still time to play along with our GOTR Summer Bingo! Each square is filled with activities that promote movement, kindness, and fun. See card for directions.

4. Join Us for Popsicles in the Park – August 1
Mark your calendars! We’re heading to Marvin Efird Park on August 1st from 4–6 PM for popsicles, games, and time to connect with other GOTR girls, friends and other like minded organizations. Bring your family and cool off with a smile!
5. Create a Wildflower Walk
Take a walk around your neighborhood or a local trail and look for wildflowers. Bring a journal to sketch or describe what you find. This adventure connects movement and mindfulness.
6. Host a Backyard Talent Show
Round up your siblings, friends, or neighbors and show off your talents: singing, dancing, or even jumping rope! You can be the MC or the star of the show.
7. Try a Colorful Snack Challenge
Stay healthy and cool by making snacks with every color of the rainbow. Invite a friend over to try red watermelon slices, orange peppers, green grapes, and more!
8. Create a Summer Photo Scavenger Hunt
Write a list of things to find—like a cloud that looks like a heart, a yellow flower, or someone helping a neighbor. Snap pictures as you go and make a memory book!
9. Write “Kindness Cards” for Friends or Neighbors
Use your creativity to design cards with encouraging messages. Walk or bike to drop them off. Spreading kindness is always active!
10. Make a Dance Routine to Your Favorite Song
Choreograph your own moves to a song that makes you feel strong, happy, or empowered! Practice with friends or perform it for your family.
No matter how you spend your summer, remember that every act of movement, creativity, and kindness counts. Girls on the Run isn’t just a season- it’s a spirit you carry year-round.
