Girls on the Run

3-5th Grade

*Volunteer Coaches Needed! Teams will appear as a "waitlist status" for registration until Coaches are secured*

Girls on the Run inspires girls of all abilities to recognize their individual strengths, while building a sense of connection in a team setting. Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development to enable girls to adapt to whatever comes their way. At the end of the season, the team completes a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.

Registration Fees

Building confidence and setting young girls down the path of a healthy lifestyle is PRICELESS! However, there are real costs associated with operating a non-profit organization and delivering the Girls on the Run program to approximately 1,200 girls in the Union and Montgomery Counties area each year. The cost per girl is $300*, but registration is only $190 per girl and includes:

  • 20 ninety-minute sessions conducted by certified GOTR/Heart & Sole volunteer coaches
  • Curriculum and lesson materials
  • Official program T-shirt
  • End of season celebration
  • 5K Registration fee
  • 5K Medal

* Support from corporate sponsers, personal donations, and grants makes our program accessible by covering registration fees, program costs, and financial aid.

True

My girl isn’t really into running… or she already runs all the time. Would she still benefit from this?

Yes, without a doubt. Girls on the Run is designed for every girl, no matter her starting point. Some arrive unsure, some arrive experienced, and all of them leave more confident, capable, and connected.

Each practice blends movement with engaging, age-appropriate lessons that build confidence and strengthen relationships. There’s plenty of laughter, teamwork, and meaningful conversation along the way. And “running” is defined broadly. Whether she’s jogging, walking, or finding her own pace, she’s exactly where she needs to be.

What’s included in the program fee?

The full cost of the program is $300, but families pay $190 thanks to the support of our donors and sponsors.

Registration includes the entire 10-week experience, with all lesson materials, program supplies, and a Girls on the Run T-shirt. It also includes entry into the season-ending 5K, where each participant receives a race bib and a finisher’s medal to celebrate everything she’s accomplished.

What if we can’t afford the registration fee?

Cost should never be the reason a girl misses out. Financial assistance is available for any family who needs it, supported by our donors and sponsors.

Over the past 20 years, more than $600,000 in scholarships has been provided through Girls on the Run of Union County to ensure girls can participate. During registration, you’ll answer a few simple questions to determine a fee that works for your family.

When does the season start?

The season begins the week of September 7, 2026 and concludes with the Gingersnap 5K on Saturday, November 21, 2026 in Waxhaw. More details will be shared as the season approaches.

Does my girl need to attend both practices each week?

Yes. Each session builds on the last, and the full experience is what makes the program so impactful. Because teams fill quickly, we ask that participants commit to both practice days each week. If that timing isn’t the right fit this season, we’d love to have her join when she can fully take part.

Is there a way for me to sponsor a participant for a season?

Yes! As a mission-driven 501(c)3, Girls on the Run relies on generous donors in order to provide more than $30,000 in program scholarships for families in need. To sponsor a participant this season, please reach out to kerry.guley@girlsontherun.org
